  The number of illegal immigrants in Britain could be 300,000 higher than the Government's estimate, a right-wing immigration think-tank said. Migrationwatch said a figure published by the Home Office in June was four years out of date and missed out children born in the UK to illegal parents. The government's estimate - the first ever published - said there were between 310,000 and 570,000 illegal immigrants in the country. But Migrationwatch said the top figure could be 870,000.

• London Bombing suspect at Rome hearing
  One of the London bomb suspects has appeared before an extradition hearing in prison in Rome, Italy. Magistrates could take several weeks to decide the fate of Ethiopia-born Briton Osman Hussain, 27, also known as Hamdi Isaac, as Italian inquiries continue. Osman Hussain is being linked to the bomb attempt at Shepherd's Bush station. Scotland Yard said he could face fast-track extradition back to the UK under the European Arrest Warrant, legislation which only came into effect in Italy last Thursday.

  Muktar Said-Ibrahim, 27, also known as Muktar Mohammed-Said, is a British citizen from Eritrea. He obtained residency in 1992 when he was 14 and was issued a British passport last September, the Home Office, or interior ministry, said in a statement. Yasin Hassan Omar, a 24-year-old Somali national, arrived in the U.K. in 1992 aged 11 and was granted indefinite permission to stay in May 2000, according to the statement.

• British National Party chief Nick Griffin facing race hate charges
  Nick Griffin, 45, was due to be joined in the dock at Leeds Crown Court by the party's founder, John Tyndall, but the 71-year-old was found dead at his Brighton home on Tuesday.Both men were charged following a West Yorkshire Police investigation into a BBC documentary on the BNP. Another activist, Mark Collett, is also due in court for the plea and directions hearing charged with similar offences.

• Jamaican-born migrant, Muslim convert, was to be father again

  Samantha Lewthwaite, 22, is reported to be struggling to understand how Jamaican-born Lindsay Jamal could have caused the deaths of at least 26 people, and says she wants proof that he is guilty.
• Lindsay, who was born in Waterford, Jamaica, was 19 and the father of a one-year-old son, Abdullah Shaheed Ibn-Jamal. One source said yesterday that Lindsay had once been a follower of Abdullah el-Faisal, a Jamaican Islamist preacher in prison in Britain for inciting his followers to kill non-Muslims.
  

  Ms Lewthwaite, who was born in Northern Ireland when her father was serving in the British Army, was drawn to Lindsay partly because of her longstanding interest in Islam. A former school friend said that Ms Lewthwaite had been fascinated by Islam since the age of ten when she lived among Asian neighbours on a housing estate. She converted to Islam when she was 17, taking the name Sherafiyah, before she met Lindsay, who used the Islamic name Jamal.
