Third suspect in gang-rape of elderly woman arrested in Pasco The third man wanted in the rape of an elderly woman earlier this week has turned himself in. Bobby Lee Black III surrendered to the lead detective in the case without incident Thursday at noon. Jathniel J. McMichael, 18, and 17-year-old Andre Brathwaite are already in custody. Pasco Sheriff Bob White said McMichael was already in jail on a drug-related charge. He was charged in connection with the rape last night. Brathwaite turned himself in shortly after 9 a.m. The 68-year-old rape victim lived in a senior living community, called Ramblewood Mobile Homes in South Zephyrhills. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Police arrest child-rapist suspect Reginald Moore on charges of rape of a female student A suspect in the rape of a female student at Creek Bend apartments was arrested over spring break. Police arrested Reginald Moore, 24. Moore was on probation for the rape of a 16-year-old at the time he was arrested. Moore, who is not a student at the university, is accused of raping a young woman after returning to her apartment to retrieve something he had left behind. Moore has already appeared before the magistrate, but that the hearing date has not been set. (Black) Mayor Wharton's Son Charged With Statutory Rape A C Wharton III, the oldest son of Shelby County mayor A C Wharton, was arrested Tuesday in Knoxville. He was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl he met in a chat room on the Internet. Wharton III is being held on a $50,000 bond. Wharton is 34, but he was reported to have presented himself as a 20-year-old. The girl apparently told one of her girlfriends, who reported the matter to school authorities. Mayor Wharton issued a statement to the media: "I learned early this morning that my son, A C Wharton III, was arrested in Knoxville on charges of statutory rape. Black Arrested In Connection With 2005 Sexual Assault Case Fla. -- A suspected serial rapist on the Treasure Coast is in custody after he spent nearly two years on the run, police said.According to police reports, Fort Pierce police arrested Robert Lee Kenon, Jr., 33, of Jensen Beach, in connection with a 2005 sexual battery case.Police said that back in Dec. 22, 2005, a suspect kidnapped a 29-year-old woman at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her inside his silver sedan. Police Search For Man Accused Of Arranging Rape Baltimore County Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Andre Earl Evans. He is wanted for arranging a robbery of a 50-year-old man, and rape of two women, one 46-year-old and the other a 44-year-old. Police say the crimes occurred on March 17, 2007 at 11:30 p.m. in the 11000 block of Bowerman Road, in the Essex area. Black arrested in robbery, rape of pregnant station clerk MASSILLON A 43-year-old man accused of robbing and raping a pregnant gas station clerk will be arraigned this morning in Municipal Court. Michael D. Jones faces felony counts of kidnapping, rape and robbery. Police arrested him at his house. Detective Sgt. Jim Mizeres said Jones came into the Speedway shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday. Jones asked if the clerk, who is five months pregnant, if she was alone, Mizeres said. When she said she was, the robber demanded money and threatened to hurt her unless she went into the back room, disrobed and lay on the floor. She refused. The clerk gave Jones money from the store's cash register as well as $80 from her purse. Mizeres said Jones then forced the clerk out of the store toward her car. She broke free and ran back into the store briefly. Black suspect in rape murder of White co-ed heads to court  A man accused of killing Hastings student Laura Dickinson in her dorm room was in court Thursday. This case has not only focused on who killed the Hastings teenager but how the school handled her death in the days and weeks after her body was discovered. A Vice President at the school has been suspended and an investigation continues into allegations of a cover-up. But Thursday, the case came to the courtroom for the preliminary hearing of Orange Amir Taylor. More details have surfaced about the death of 22-year-old Laura Dickinson. Black gets life for murdering teacher    N.J. - A man who carjacked and killed a special education teacher who secretly tape-recorded her conversation with him during the crime was sentenced Friday to life in prison. Michael T. LaSane was convicted March 7 of the 1996 murder, kidnapping, carjacking and robbery of 45-year-old Kathleen Stanfield Weinstein. The case drew wide attention because Weinstein secretly recorded 46 minutes of conversation with her captor in her car. Convicted rapist Benjamin LaGuer has lost another bid for a new trial BOSTON -- Convicted rapist Benjamin LaGuer, who became a central figure in last year's gubernatorial campaign, has lost another bid for a new trial. The state Supreme Judicial Court on Friday shot down LaGuer's eighth motion for a new trial, rejecting an appeal based on his claim that a state police fingerprint report that was not turned over to the defense during his trial could have helped him prove his innocence. Black NYC Man Receives 240-Years for Taking Bar Patrons Hostage in Hate Crime N  EW YORK — A judge sentenced a man to 240 years in prison Wednesday for taking hostages in a bar and telling patrons that "white people are going to burn tonight." State Supreme Court Justice Maxwell Wiley told Steven Johnson, 39, who is black, that he had forfeited his "right to live in society." Johnson, 39, was convicted March 1 of attempted murder, assault and other charges, including some designated as hate crimes. Johnson invaded Bar Veloce, in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood, while nine men and six women were inside it June 16, 2002. He was carrying three pistols, a samurai sword and a container of kerosene. He told police he had left the Brooklyn housing project where he lived and taken the subway to go look for "happy" white people to avenge the mistreatment of blacks. He shot and wounded three people, including a police officer, and sprayed kerosene on several customers and threatened to set them on fire. Two women caught Johnson off guard and tackled him, and a policeman shot him. Black school janitor accused of raping, sodomizing 8-year-old girl A janitor was arrested Monday on charges of raping and sodomizing a student various times at a Brooklyn school where he worked. Bail for Francis Evelyn, 58, was set at $150,000 during his arraignment on rape, sex abuse and other charges. His attorney denied any wrongdoing. Evelyn "was subjected to extreme police pressure to make a statement, an admission," lawyer Richard Spivack told reporters outside court. "He made none because he may very well be innocent." School officials did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment. Authorities said that the girl's mother contacted police this week, telling them her daughter claimed she was sexually abused at school. Shreveport: Two Negroes Arrested On Two Separate Rape Charges  Shreveport Police say they've arrested two men on separate charges of aggravated rape. On Wednesday night, a Caddo Parish Grand Jury indicted Eddie McCraney Jr. for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in 2006. Police say it's possible McCraney had been molesting the girl since she was eight-years-old. McCraney's bond is set at $250,000. About 3:00 Thursday morning, police arrested 18-year-old DeAndre Davis for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl. According to police, Davis reportedly began having a relationship with the girl since she was 10. Police also say the girl may be pregnant. Shreveport Negro arrested for ATM kidnap, robbery and rape A man suspected of carjacking, robbing, and raping a woman is finally behind bars. Thirty-nine-year-old Anthony Ashley was taken into custody around 3:00 a.m. Friday morning. Ashley is charged with first-degree robbery, flight in a vehicle, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape. Police say just after they got a warrant for Ashley's arrest, K-9 Corporal Daniel Sawyer and his K-9 Renzo saw Ashley on the Portland Street Bridge. Black Cinci police officer indicted on rape charges A longtime Cincinnati police officer is accused of raping a 40-year-old woman whom he was sent to help after she said she was assaulted by an ex-boyfriend. He told the woman that he would make her "feel better," according to prosecutors. William Simpson, 46, was indicted Friday by a Hamilton County grand jury on three charges of sexual battery and three charges of rape. Prosecutors said Simpson held the woman's wrists and forcibly raped her. A Cincinnati police report says Simpson "coerced the victim into engaging in sexual conduct." "Crazy" homeless black woman responsible for burning four white people alive      CHICAGO - A woman suspected of starting a series of fires near Wrigley Field, including one that killed four people, was charged Monday with murder, authorities said.Mary Smith, 43, was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated arson, the Cook County state's attorney office said. Police identified Smith after witnesses reported seeing an unkempt woman, wearing clear plastic bags on her feet, near the scene of three small fires, said Edward O'Donnell, commander of the police department's bomb and arson unit. The fourth fire, reported shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday within walking distance of the others, quickly spread through a three-story apartment building, killing four people inside a top-floor apartment, fire officials said. Smith made a number of self-incriminating statements during questioning and witnesses identified her from "numerous" lineups, police said. She appeared coherent and calm, they said. “There's some stuff that she knew too well, so she gave statements that would put her on the scene,” Area 3 Police Comdr. Thomas Byrne said. Prosecutors: Negress Set Fatal Fire To Warm Up Cold Feet The fire early Saturday at 3553 N. Fremont claimed the lives of single mother Jennifer Carlson, 24, her roommate Jason Bowers, 23, and two friends -- Jerod Pilgreen, 21, of Poplar Grove and Joseph Schultz of Belvidere. Carlson and Bowers rented a third-floor unit. A fifth person jumped from a third-floor window at the burning apartment building. The survivor might have inadvertently aided the fire’s spread, said police Bomb and Arson unit Cmdr. Ed O’Donnell. The man left his apartment door open, which “allowed superheated air and gases to enter,” O’Donnell said. At Smith’s bond hearing, Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Lacy said Smith set the fire in an interior stairwell at 3553 N. Fremont just before 7 a.m. Saturday. "She said she lost her shoes that night and her feet were cold," Lacy said. At the request of Smith’s lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Dayna Woodbury, Hyland sent Smith to Cook County’s Cermak Hospital instead of the jail. “All indications are she is seriously mentally ill,’’ said Woodbury. “She needs medication. Dew is the pastor of Praise Tabercacle, a small church in south Sacramento. Sacramento police arrested Dew last Friday. Authorities believe he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old after following the boy into the bathroom at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library on 24th Street. Students said the school covered up the rape and murder of a fellow student. The body of Laura Dickinson, 22, of Hastings was found inside her dorm room on Dec. 15. Students claim they were told Dickinson died of what appeared to be "natural causes". "I kind of just feel like they were holding things back. Police: Black Man Rapes 68-Year-Old For Hours 'I Hope He Rots In His Jail Cell,' Chief Says A man accused of repeatedly raping a 68-year-old Daytona Beach, Fla., woman for hours in her home was found by officers early Friday still asleep in the victim's bed and arrested -- for the 29th time, according to police. Investigators said Lenard Jackson, 38, cut the power to the woman's home Thursday night, woke her up and attacked her at knifepoint. The woman said she was hit in the face and then sexually attacked in her bedroom. Jackson entered the woman's home through the woman's garage and then turned off several circuit breakers, the police report said. The woman said that at some point during the alleged attack, Jackson fell asleep and she was able to escape and call police from a neighbor's house. Feral Black Mugger Attacks 101-Yr-Old White Woman and an 85-year-old woman   A New York City mugger attacked a 101-year-old woman, punched her in the face and knocked her over before making off with her handbag, according to police and a security-camera video. Shortly afterward, the same suspect victimized an 85-year-old woman Solange Elizee, also using a walker, police said Friday as they pressed the public for tips that could identify him. The attacks took place in separate buildings in the Jamaica section of Queens last Sunday. The suspect, a black male in his 30s, is wanted in a string of neighborhood robberies. Smiling Black pleads not guilty to running down a white family in McDonald's parking lot - killing 2-year-old   The black man accused of running down five white family members and killing a 2-year-old girl in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant in Covington last May pleaded not guilty. Lanny Perry Barnes, 46, attended the 15-minute arraignment hearing wearing street clothes and no expression on his face. Sitting behind him was Stephanie Casola, the mother who was hit, along with her two sons, niece, and sister, by Barnes' vehicle. Witnesses told police that Barnes struck the family, backed up, smiled, and drove into them again. Casola's niece, Avery King, died of her injuries. Black Sex Offender Charged With Kidnap-Rape-Kill of White 11-year-old Jacksonville Girl In 1996  Fla. -- A Connecticut sex offender will be returned to Florida to face a murder charge after being linked to the decade-old rape and drowning of an 11-year-old girl through a database of DNA from convicted sex offenders. Robert Shelton Mitchell, 43, was being held on a $5 million bond after being arraigned as a fugitive. He will face first-degree murder and capital sexual battery charges in the death of Cherie Morrisette of Jacksonville. The Mandarin Middle School student body was found on Dec. 8, 1996, floating in the St. John's River about 10 miles south of the apartment she shared with her mother and sister. An autopsy determined that Cherie drowned shortly after her disappearance on Dec. 2, 1996, and was alive when she either fell into the river or was thrown in. Police labeled the death suspicious, and authorities found a small DNA sample on her underwear and body. Mitchell lived in nearby Middleburg at the time of the girl's death, police said Thursday.
