The Hartford Distributors shooting was a mass shooting that occurred on August 3, 2010, in Manchester, Connecticut, United States. The location of the crime was a warehouse owned by Hartford Distributors, a beer distribution company. The gunman, former employee Omar Thornton, shot and killed eight people before turning a gun on himself. The shooting Thornton, a 34-year-old black man, was called into his place of employment for disciplinary purposes. Thornton had been recorded on surveillance video in the Hartford Distributors warehouse stealing beer on a previous occasion. Hartford Distributors is a wholesale distributor of Budweiser beer products and wine. Given the options of being fired or resigning, Thornton signed the resignation papers and was being escorted out of the building. Instead of leaving, he took two Ruger SR9s from his lunchbox and opened fire. At the time Thornton started shooting, there were around 40 employees in the building. In just a few minutes, Thornton murdered eight coworkers, and seriously injured two others. - (Black-on-white) |

- Gunman Omar Thornton 911 Call: I Wish I Could’ve Killed More People - Aug 6, 2010
“You probably want to know the reason why I shot this place up,” Thornton said in a recording. “This place is a racist place. They’re treating me bad over here. And treat all other black employees bad over here, too. So I took it to my own hands and handled the problem. I wish I could have got more of the people.” Thornton, 34, went on his killing spree moments after he was forced to resign when confronted with video evidence that he had been stealing and reselling beer. Thornton’s ex-girlfriend, Jessica Anne Brocuglio, said he had a history of racial problems with co-workers at other jobs and believed he was denied pay raises because of his race.

A murderous Connecticut beer-truck driver was acting “strangely” and “seemed like he was in a daze” when he kissed his girlfriend goodbye and headed off to gun down eight co-workers, she said yesterday. “I kept asking him what was wrong,” said Kristi Hannah, Omar Thornton’s gal pal. “And he wouldn’t tell me. “He gave me a big, long hug and kiss,” Hannah said. “Then I said, ‘You better call me.’ And he said he would. He told me he loved me again, and he drove away. I never thought it’d be the last time I’d see him.”
- "I shot the racists that was bothering me," he told his mother, according to his uncle.

Busted, he didn't put up a fight, company officials said. He quietly signed a letter of resignation and was headed for the door when he pulled out a gun and started firing -- "cold as ice," as one survivor described it. In the end, Thornton killed eight people, injured two, then turned the gun on himself in a rampage Tuesday at Hartford Distributors that union and company officials said they would not have anticipated from someone with no history of complaints or disciplinary problems. A union official said Thornton had not filed a complaint of racism with the union or any government agency.
Police have named the nine people killed and two wounded in a shooting rampage at a Connecticut beer distributor. All except the gunman were age 50 or older, including a 77-year-old man was wounded. Manchester police say those who died in Tuesday's shootings at Hartford Distributors were 57-year-old Francis Fazio Sr., 56-year-old Douglas Scruton, 49-year-old Edwin Kennison, 51-year-old William C. Ackerman Jr. , 51-year-old Bryan Cirigliano, 60-year-old Craig Pepin, 50-year-old Louis Felder Jr. and 61-year-old Victor James. The survivors have been identified as 50-year-old company vice president Steven Hollander and 77-year-old Jerome Rosenstein. Hollander has been released from a hospital and Rosenstein is in serious condition. They were his co-workers. They never ... harmed him in any way."
